The inaugural NIGHTRIDER™ charity challenge took place on Saturday 19 June 2010. A group of 280 cyclists trailblazed a 100km route through the moonlit streets of London. The intrepid riders followed a circular itinerary past over 50 of London’s most famous landmarks. Each participant fundraised for the charity of their choice. While the capital slept over £25,000 was raised for 86 different causes.
The concept of cycling through London by night really captured the imagination of all those who participated in NIGHTRIDER™. Martyn Blackman took part in NIGHTRIDER™ and straight afterwards completed the annual British Heart Foundation London to Brighton ride! He said: “Although London is a city that is very familiar to me, cycling through the empty streets watching the sun rise over the landmarks & bridges of the Thames was a magical & surreal experience, one given the chance I would love to repeat”
NIGHTRIDER™ was conceived and developed by leading charity tour operator Classic Tours. It is now set to become an annual event on the London calendar. Next year’s ride will take place on 11 June 2011.
